- The miniature medical intervention robot will bring ease of use and high accuracy to the Chinese operating rooms in a partnership with the innovative Chinese medtech company Ningbo Hicren.
- After several years operating exclusively in Europe, the company behind Micromate™, Interventional Systems, reached both the US and the Chinese market in a 6-month timespan.
Micromate™, the world’s smallest head-to-toe medical robot, has just reached the Chinese market through an investment partnership with Ningbo Hicren, a China-based spine and sports medical equipment company.
Micromate™ is Interventional Systems’ table-mounted medical robot for interventional procedures, with a universal instrument guidance solution that allows physicians to continue using their preferred surgical instruments. Targeting is performed under live-imaging using any Cone-Beam Computerized Tomography (CT), Fluoro CT or a Fluoroscope, with the assistance of state-of-the-art surgical navigation techniques.
The technology will be made available by Sino-European MicroRobotics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a joint venture established with China-based Hicren, a company developing state-of-the-art medical equipment for interventional spine, spine surgery and sports medicine.
“Ningbo Hicren immediately recognized the value in our mission to empower physicians with an easy-to-use, full-fledged robotic platform.”, says Michael Vogele, Interventional Systems’ CEO. “This is especially interesting for us, because we have been developing this type of micro-invasive robotic solutions for the past ten years. Getting this kind of acknowledgement from a company that’s always at the forefront of innovation, like Hicren, makes us really happy”
“We are thrilled to partner with Ningbo Hicren, whose product offering is nothing short of a success”, says Pedro Costa, Interventional Systems’ CPO. “Given our track record, we knew this was the logical next step for us: we have had several robots under intensive usage in Europe for many years, we’re rolling out our US operation very swiftly, so the Chinese market was the missing piece, geographically speaking. From here, we can more easily spread into new markets, so we can fulfill our vision of pioneering better patient outcomes by expanding the access to micro-invasive interventions.”
“Robot-assisted surgeries are transforming orthopedic surgery rooms globally and in China”, says Bill Ma, CEO of Ningbo Hicren. “As a Chinese medtech company dedicated to developing innovative solutions for MIS spine and sports medicine, we are amazed by Micromate’s compact design, efficient workflow and superb user experience. Together with Interventional Systems and the top spine and sports medicine KOLs in China, we aim to bring highly innovative and affordable robot-assisted surgical solutions to the Chinese market, combining the strengths and merits from the products and technology of both companies.”
